--- title: "Installing an External Platform Services Controller (PSC)" canonical: "https://www.virtcloudrocks.com/space/VSPHTECH01/852119/Installing%20an%20External%20Platform%20Services%20Controller%20(PSC)" format: markdown --- The deployment of an external PSC takes place in two stages, (a) towards the stage 1 it takes place the deployment of the appliance, and (b) towards the stage 2 it takes place the configuration of the PSC/appliance. Stage 1 Description of Task / Action to be done Screenshot Step 1 Mount the ISO file download to the client machine through which you will perform the installation. After the file is loaded, go to /vcsa-uiinstaller folder → select folder based on OS of your client → and run the installer file. The vCenter Server Appliance 6.5 installation page opens. To continue further click the Install  button to start the installation. Step 2 Introduction of the installation process, press Next to continue further. Step 3 Accept the EULA Terms & Conditions and press Next to continue further. Step 4 Since we shall deploy external PSC, select Platform Service Controller , and press Next to continue. Step 5 Provide the IP or FQDN of the ESXi host or vCenter to which the PSC will be deployed to. Furthermore, provide the authentication credentials. In our case we deploying to an ESXi host, so we provided the IP address of the host, root account authentication credentials. Press Next to continue further with the installation process. Step 6 Accept the SSL certificate of the ESXi host. Step 7 Provide the VM name for the appliance, and root account password to be set towards the deployment process. Step 8 Select the datastore to which the appliance will be deployed to, and you may also enable Thin Mode . Press Next to continue further. Step 9 Provide the network configuration settings for the PSC appliance. Please note that as system name you need to provide the FQDN of the PSC appliance. Step 10 Verify all the settings and press Finish in order to complete the initial part of the PSC deployment. Step 11 Wait for the Stage 1: Deployment of Appliance to be completed. When the deployment has completed, the button changes to Close  (from Cancel). Press Continue , to continue with Stage 2 deployment/configuration of the appliance. Stage 2 Description of Task / Action to be done Screenshot Step 1 Some generic information for the stage 2 process is presented Press Next to continue with the next step. Step 2 Configure the NTP server(s) for time synchronization, and you also have the option to enable SSH access. Press Next to continue with the next step. Step 3 Since this is the first PSC that is deployed, we have to create a new SSO, so select Create a new SSO domain , and provide all the necessary information, Single Sign-On Domain Name : vsphere.local Single Sign-On User Name: administrator Provide the password for SSO account Site Name : site-c Press Next to continue with the next step. Step 4 Choose if you want to participate to VMware CEIP. Press Next to continue with the next step. Step 5 Verify all the configuration settings provided and press Finish . Step 6 You can monitor the appliance's configuration process. While the appliance setup is in progress dialog box, wait for the setup to complete. At the Complete  dialog, you can find a link to the vSphere Web Client interface. This completes stage 2 of the deployment process and set up of the PSC appliance.
